Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a leading British manufacturer of luxury and sport utility vehicles, designs and develops vehicles under the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. To gain deeper insights from vehicle data and enhance both efficiency and competitiveness, JLR partnered with Colibri to design and build a tailored data platform capable of delivering actionable intelligence.
Each JLR vehicle contains up to 150 sensors that capture data on driver behaviour and vehicle performance, which is uploaded to a third-party platform and stored in a data warehouse. However, JLR needed direct access to this data for deeper analysis.
They sought full control over the data on their platform, enabling in-house data scientists to perform advanced analytics. These insights could then inform future vehicle design, enhance functionality, and improve production efficiency.
Impressed by Colibri’s technical expertise and deep knowledge of AWS, JLR chose them to deliver one of the most complex cloud-native projects of its kind.
Colibri built a connected car platform using advanced AWS services to deliver real-time data directly to JLR. The solution incorporated over 30 AWS tools, including Glue and Firehose, to support powerful analytics.
Developed over nine months, the platform was continuously refined to meet JLR’s evolving needs, ensuring an optimal, future-ready solution. Colibri remains closely involved, providing strategic consultancy and a 24/7 managed service to keep data flowing reliably. As JLR and the automotive sector shift focus toward electric vehicles, this partnership continues to play a vital role in driving innovation.
JLR’s data scientists can now leverage real-time data from their extensive fleet to inform the design process, identify issues, and uncover opportunities for improvement - driving innovation across the business.
With the fleet currently generating 250 million transactions daily, and projected to exceed 800 million within five years, the platform empowers JLR to make data-driven decisions on everything from engine performance and fuel efficiency to vehicle safety.
The platform has also been instrumental in analysing new technologies in JLR’s first all-electric vehicle, enabling rapid system optimisation and swift issue resolution. By integrating vehicle data with external sources, such as weather reports, JLR gains a more holistic view of performance, helping refine design for varying real-world conditions.
